Dromineer
Located in County Tipperary, on the western side of Lough Derg, Dromineer boasts a large, easily-accessible and well-sheltered harbour with plenty of amenities on offer. These include a number of licensed restaurants serving great food and drink. The harbour's most distinguishing landmark is Dromineer Castle, a prime example of a Norman-era castle now draped with ivy, which stands sentry over the shore. Dromineer also has the honour of being home to the Lough Derg Yacht Club, the third oldest yacht club in the world.
Not far from Dromineer is the town of Nenagh, one of the largest and most important towns in the county. The name Nenagh is derived from the Gaelic word for fair, Aonach.
Historically Nenagh has always been a very busy, prosperous and important market town and remains an important commercial centre today. The town's main monument is the emblematic Nenagh Castle, a finely preserved example of a Norman round tower.
Also close to Dromineer is the village of Garrykennedy, which, like Dromineer, also has a number of licensed restaurants and a public harbour situated directly on the shores of Lough Derg.
