Mountshannon
The quaint village of Mountshannon, situated on Lough Derg, is one of the more popular stops along the lower Shannon. Though small, Mountshannon can be quite a lively place with a number of bars, pubs, cafés and restaurants. It also boasts numerous holiday homes which are available to rent and a Celtic-themed park area, overlooking the harbour, for those who wish to unwind for a while.
The harbour itself is scenic and tranquil place though it can get quite busy once the tourist season picks up. During the summertime the village becomes quite busy with numerous boating events and regattas, as well as the Mountshannon Arts Festival bringing countless artists and musicians, as well as sailors and sightseers from all around Ireland and the world at large. Indeed the harbour isn't the only part of the village to sport such an international facade, Mountshannon itself is as much a global village as it is an Irish one with a colourful collection of expats from all over Europe and elsewhere further contributing to the village's already-unique character and charm.
