Remove WGA.
As of summer 2006 Microsoft made their Windows Genuine Advantage Tool a compulsary download from the Windows Update site.
This tool is designed primarily to check if XP installations are genuine and if the tool decides it's not (it has been known to make mistakes)
It will report back to Microsoft whilst also "nagging" you to purchase a legit copy of XP and drastically affecting the operability of your current XP installation.
Whether your copy of XP is genuine is, at the end of the day, Microsoft's concern, not the user's but regardless of this and, even when an installation
passes its WGA validation with flying colours, the WGA Tool will still continue to use up bandwidth and sap resources in order to report your actions back to Microsoft. In other words the Windows Genuine Advantage Tool is Spyware but you will not be able to install any more Windows Updates without it.
However this tool can then remove the tool after updates so to stop it from telling tales to Bill Gates behind your back.
Note: Microsoft would much prefer if Remove WGA didn't exist and has shut many sites that host the program down so you may have to look on Google.

A handy little program which removes many spyware programs others might leave behind as well as removing all history and other privacy information.
A good idea to run this once a week at least. Very easy to use and with a backup system in case you remove something you shouldn't have.
